The Journey of Shelley Dyer
My journey has taken me from aviation management and the legal system to what has become my true passion: helping horses help people.
I spent many years in the airline industry, including as a FedEx ramp manager, where I hired and trained employees, managed busy airport operations, and helped prepare for a successful federal audit. Later, I earned my paralegal certification and worked for 10–12 years in Protective Order Court, primarily with domestic violence cases. I also worked with a human trafficking shelter and volunteered with animal rescue.
My passion eventually led me to The Right Step as an adaptive riding instructor, where I developed a ground program for veterans, seniors, mental health groups, people experiencing homelessness and addiction, and others simply looking for connection with a horse.
Watching the transformation that happens between people and horses inspired me to study the science behind the human-horse connection. For the past several years, that has become my mission: to understand why horses are so healing to the human mind, body, and soul—and to help others experience that connection.
Today, I teach at a beautiful local barn with that same goal: helping horses help people. I hold CHA certifications in Western and English riding, certified by Julie Goodnight, and am completing my PATH International Instructor training.
I truly believe that horses have an extraordinary ability to connect with people, build trust, and bring healing. And I feel incredibly fortunate to be part of that process.
